I wanted to share with you some of the situations I've gotten myself into as I gather door prizes for our annual GVRG field day.
I've gotten pretty good with the ladies at the cosmetic counters. Usually I'm able to ask for samples without having to do anything. Sometimes I have to sit through counsulations while they litterally muck with my face before I can have the samples...
The worst was at the Clinique counter wherein I spent
one hour and forty minutes while they worked my face over. (I've never
had my eyebrows painted before). I was trying to project an outward
face of stoic patience, but inside I was screaming "LET ME OUT OF
HERE". I wanted so badly to knock the consultant over and run, but
then I wouldn't get the free lipstick I wanted for a doorprize. However
the reactions from my friends after spending all that time in the chair
was very favorable. But if you think I'm going to spend an hour and
forty minutes per day on my face, you can forget it!!!
After putting up with another face consultation I am
offered samples to complement my skin tone. (Warm colours). I ask for
the opposite (Cold colours). The reason why I do this is because not
all the ladies in our group have the same skin tone and I like to
acomodate all. However the consultant looks at me as if I'm a dolt.
The most taxing/frustrating/challenging experience
I've been through to date has been with Z953 radio contest. One is
suppose to listen for CODE words and enter them to accumulate points.
With these points one can bid (sort of like ebay) on auction items on
Z'ds website or use them on their slot machine site. I thought, hey I
could do this, just have to listen.
Well the first round I started two weeks into the
contest. When I tried to bid I found I didn't have enough points for
anything. I dumped them on the slots hoping I'd get lucky and win
something. After 158 tries on the slots I didn't win a thing. I was
so disappointed.
I decided to do the next round right from the
beginning. I had to be at the radio at 7:15, 11:15am, 5:15 and 8:15pm
Monday-Friday listening for the code words. There were also bonus
questions and bonus events to earn more points.
You have to keep up or you'll never have enought
points to bid on anything. I blew a couple of bonus questions so I was
already behind 2000 points. (Hey I'm not glued to the radio, I do have
a life)
A bonus event was to take place for an entire
weekend. During this weekend one bonus word would be worth 1000
points. (Usually bonus words are worth 500 points). The bonus word
weekend started from 6:00am Saturday and was to end Sunday. Bonus
words would be given out randomly during the weekend - no set times.
I'm up at 6:00am Saturday morning in my bathrobe
listening attentively to the radio. I waited till 7:15am and no code
word had come up yet. I was swearing. I got a family member to
monitor while I showered and then got back to it. Basically my life
rotated around the radio that weekend. When a bonus word did come up
it was only worth 250 points. I was going through this for 250
points?! I started swearing again. Saturday I managed to catch four
bonus words. I gave up after 9:00pm.
The next day, Sunday, I again rotated my life aound
the radio. I would not go to the bathroom unless someone was
monitoring for me.
I agreed to meet with friends on the condition that
they keep the radio turned to Z953. Once I caught my friend reaching
to turn off the radio. One look at my face was enough to halt that
action.
Finally at 7:00pm Sunday Z announced the 1000 point code word. Shout of eleation! I didn't miss it.
The next day I'm on Z'ds web site and they left a
hint for anyone who didn't listen for the 1000 point code word on
Sunday. This allowed anyone to get the 1000 point code word without
sacrificing their weekend to listen for it. You should have heard the
swearing then.
Now I was ready to bid. I missed out a couple of
times by being to conservative with my points. I turned cutthroat and
aggressive in my biddings. Things finially came together and I was
successful in obtaining a door prize.
I began the process of trying to collect. I waited
for Z'd to contact me. My points were deducted so I was just waiting
for notification to pick up the prize. Nothing happened, no
notification came through. I emailed Z'd and thanked them for
adjusting my points but could they please contact me. Nothing
happened. I let a couple of days go by and emailed again. No
response. Yes, I was swearing again.
I jumped through hoops and irrated my family and
friends just so I could win a door prize and wasn't able to pick it
up???!!!! NOT.
I waited a week and two days and then I faxed Z'd.
They finially contacted me by phone. I whipped in the same day for
pick-up. I wasn't going to take any chances on anything else going
wrong.
Was it worth all that effort? You have to ask my
family and friends. Their comment was they've never seen me so
stressed out and swear so much in my life. I had to promise eveyone I
would not do another round to gain their co-operation and tolerate my
antics.
Being the person I am I would not let Z'd get the
better of me. I was determined to win and collect something. Just as
I was determined to make that contact at field day 2006.
Being tenacious does pay off! See you all at Field Day 2007.
